ABOUT FOCUS QUARTERLY
In an age shaped by the constant circulation of images, Focus Quarterly proposes a more measured act of looking. Its editorial sensibility acknowledges the legacy of Alfred Stieglitz and the quiet influence of Camera Work, a publication that first articulated photography as a contemplative artistic medium.
Published four times each year, the journal is conceived as a reflective space within contemporary photographic culture. Each issue brings together the work of two practitioners — a continuing presence and an invited guest — whose images are sequenced with care, allowing visual relationships to emerge gradually across the printed page.
The photographs presented favour atmosphere over declaration. Stillness, light, surface and the subtle passage of time become recurring motifs, encouraging the reader to engage with the work through attention rather than explanation. Text is intentionally restrained, enabling the images themselves to carry emotional and intellectual resonance.
Produced in limited numbers, Focus Quarterly is shaped as a small-press object: tactile, considered and quietly enduring. The publication appears in April, July, October and January. Copies are available by subscription at £10 per issue or £35 annually, inclusive of UK postage.
