WORKSHOPS
WORKSHOP FORMAT
Workshops may be arranged either for photographic groups or as more intensive studio-based sessions.
Group Workshops (up to 10 participants)
A full-day practical workshop delivered at the host organisation’s venue.
A room capable of being darkened is required in order to facilitate process demonstrations and plate preparation.
Venue hire and associated local arrangements remain the responsibility of the booking organisation.
Studio Workshops (1–2 participants)
Smaller studio-based sessions allow for more concentrated individual guidance and a slower working pace.
These may also be arranged at suitable outdoor locations using mobile darkroom facilities.

DIGITAL MEETS ANALOGUE (GLASS PLATE OROTONES)
This workshop introduces the preparation of digital contact negatives and their application within contemporary alternative photographic practice. Participants are guided through the workflow used to create glass plate positives, from image preparation to final finishing stages.
Discussion includes the establishment of a simple “dimroom” environment that can be created within a home or studio setting, enabling photographers to reconnect with the tactile craft of image production.
Numbers are limited to ensure meaningful hands-on experience.
Participants will have the opportunity to produce their own glass plate image during the session using pre-prepared negatives and supplied materials.
WET PLATE COLLODION
A fully immersive introduction to the historic wet plate process first practised in the mid-nineteenth century.
Through demonstration and supervised practical work, participants gain an understanding of plate preparation, sensitising, exposure and development using large-format equipment.
The workshop provides an opportunity to experience portrait-making through a method that demands patience, collaboration and careful attention to light. Each participant will complete the day with a unique hand-made plate as a tangible record of the process.
